Home and remodeling shows are a great way to get ideas for projects around the house and potentially find the people to do the work. These types of events are usually held in the spring and fall.
There are two good local ones, each having hundreds of vendors to get the creative juices going. The Lane County Home Improvement Show was Oct 12-14 at the Lane Events Center at the Lane County Fairgrounds in Eugene.
The following weekend, Oct 19-21, Willamette Valley Home Shows will present the 29th annual Salem Home and Remodel Show at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem. Show times are Friday, 3 to 8 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission to both shows is free. Eugene requested a canned food donation for FOOD of Lane County.
Both shows feature over 100 vendors. In addition to the expected remodeling (home, kitchen, bathroom) other booths that are things for the garage, landscaping, outdoor kitchens, home appliances, gutter guards, solar paneling, windows, heating, and cooling systems, pest control, and furniture.
Vanessa Gardener Nagel and Mary-Kate Mackey where among those giving the 30 presentations last weekend at the Eugene show. Gardner Nagel, a landscape designer, and author gave a presentation on “Travel Inspired Garden Designs” and, “Renovating Tired Gardens.” Mackey, an award-winning garden writer, also gave talks on trees and gardens. Her presentation on “Best Small Trees – Play Big Roles” was amazing and was followed by her presentation on “Midsummer Garden Nightmares.”
